Second Call for Papers

3rd International Symposium on Information Management in a Changing World,
September 19-21, 2012, Ankara, Turkey

 E-Science and Information Management
(Second Call for Papers)

 SCOPE

The “3rd International Symposium on Information Management in a Changing World” (or IMCW2012), organized by the Department of Information Management of Hacettepe University, will take place in Ankara, Turkey, from 19-21 September 2012.

“E-Science and Information Management” being the main theme, IMCW2012 aims to bring together both researchers and information professionals to discuss the implications of e-science for information management.

A distinguished scientist and currently the Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Dr. Tony Hey is the keynote speaker of IMCW2012.  “E-Science” is defined as collaborative, networked and data-driven science.  In his keynote speech, Dr. Hey will highlight the major issues that e-science scholars and researchers are faced with when working with large and distributed data sets, processing and visualizing them using advanced technologies and software packages.  He will share his views on some of the challenges that both scholars and information professionals have to tackle (e.g., gathering, curating, organizing, storing, and managing large amount of data, and providing perpetual access to them over the Internet).

Accepted papers and posters will appear in the proceedings book to be published by Springer under its CCIS series (http://www.springer.com/series/7899) and the Symposium web site.  Papers that appear in Springer’s CCIS series are indexed in Thomson Reuter’s Conference Proceedings Citation Index.

Because IMCW2012 coincides with the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the Department of Information Management of Hacettepe University, to commemorate this event we organized an international ex libris competition with the theme “information management” (http://exlibris.hacettepe.edu.tr/index.php?lang=en&page=HomePage).  The winning art works of ex libris will be exhibited during the symposium. (Please note: Different deadlines apply for the ex libris competition.)

As organizers, we thought this is an opportune time for IMCW2012 to review the challenges for  research libraries and information professionals in the collaborative, networked, and data intensive e-science environment.  Such challenges range from information literacy to intellectual property rights, from developing open access data repositories for e-science to using digital tools for data processing and visualization, and from collection development and management to reference services and e-science librarianship.
